Dr Ying Chen is an Associate Professor at the Department of Electronic Materials Engineering, Research School of Physical Sciences and Engineering, The Australian National University, Canberra.

Professor Chen has extensive experience in nanomaterials synthesis and applications, and is an expert in high energy ball milling techniques. He has gained an international reputation through his invention of the ball milling and annealing method for producing nanotubes and nanowires. He is listed by the ISI Web of Knowledge as the second top author in the ‘ball milling’ category. He has been invited to write 5 book chapters on nanotubes and nanowires, and published 170 journal articles. His publications have been cited over 2000 times in the past 10 years. His innovative and international standard research has been recognized by several awards including the prestigious QEII/ARF fellowships awarded by the Australian Research Council.
