A/Prof Darren Martin has been involved in the fundamental and applied research of structure-property relationships in polymeric biomaterials and nanocomposites for the past 10 years, with over 50 journal and conference publications. His principal interest is the R&D of biomedical polyurethanes and nanocomposites for medical device components. This includes expertise in the synthesis and surface modification of nanoparticles, the processing of nanocomposites and the biological evaluation of new biomaterials. In 2003, he was appointed as Senior Lecturer in Biomaterials at UQ, and is a Chief Investigator in the ARC Centre for Functional Nanomaterials. A/Prof Martin’s expertise in biomaterials has recently been applied to the tissue engineering field, with new projects starting on dynamic mechanical cell culture and testing of nanostructured bone TE constructs. A/Prof Martin is also a key academic in the newly-formed Centre for High Performance Polymers at UQ.
