Biofunctionalisation of magnetic nanoparticles using novel hetero telechelic polymers

The project aims to modify surface of iron oxide nanoparticles with polymers for stabilisation under physiological conditions as well as functionalisation with drug molecules for in vivo drug delivery.

Major achievements

Creation of new functional molecules by RAFT polymerisation that allows for the stabilisation of iron oxide NPs.

The work was published in J. Mater. Chem.

Future plans and directions

In vitro testing of stabilised iron oxide NPs as vehicles for drug delivery as well as MRI contrast agent.

Collaborations

Centre for Advanced Molecular Design (CAMD), UNSW.
