Integrated photocatalytic /filtration system for VOC removal in confined spaces

This project studies the potential of integrating photocatalysis with filtration to give an air quality control unit capable of simultaneously removing particulate matter and Volatile Organic Compounds. The emphasis of application of this technology is for indoor environments.

Major achievements

Integrated photocatalytic/filtration unit has been designed and used for the photodegradation of ethanol in the gas-phase.
Modification of the photocatalyst has led to improved performance in the context of photocatalytic activity and lifetime.

Future plans and directions

Further optimisation of unit design is needed.
Assessment of integrated system under more realistic indoor air conditions is to be undertaken (i.e. presence of other compounds, ozone etc).
