Role of organic functional groups in TiO2 photocatalytic application

This project aims to shed light on the role of organic molecular structure in defining photocatalytic performance (e.g. photoactivity, reaction mechanism) of neat and metallised TiO2.

Major achievements

Detailed assessment of photodegradation mechanism of malic acid in the aqueous phase has been completed.

Future plans and directions

Comparison of malic acid photodegradation results with succinic and tartaric acid results will shed light on the effect of OH groups in the organic molecule on the photocatalytic performance.
To investigate effect of OH groups in the presence of Pt deposits on TiO2.
