Toxicity of nanoparticles in mammalian cells
In this study, the toxicity of Degussa P25 in mammalian cells was assessed in vitro. Emphasis is placed on the thorough characterisation of the particles, particularly with respect to the particles size distribution and zeta potential in cell media. The efficacy of several biological assays is also evaluated.
Major achievements
The particle size and concentration were shown to be an important variable in the observed toxicity. The dispersion of the nanoparticles in different type of biological media was also shown to be an important factor in the observed toxicity.
Future plans and directions
Nanoparticles internalisation and trafficking will be studied
