BN nanotube sensing and DUV light emissions for environmental protection

This project aims to use BN nanotubes for environmental applications, which include doped BN nanotubes for efficient nanosensor and generating VUV light from nanotubes to decompose toxic compounds which are difficult to decompose.

Major achievements

BN nanotube doping with different elements (Au F and C) has been carried out and significant property changes have been found in the electrical conductivity and magnetic properties. The experimental results have been interpreted by theoretical calculations.

Future plans and directions

Nanosensing from doped BN nanotubes will be the main research focus in 2009 and we hope to achieve a major breakthrough VUV light emission from BN nanotubes.
